The IWFM Impact Awards 2023 are now only THREE WEEKS away, and this year we are taking additional steps to make the Awards more sustainable.
IWFM recently issued a call to action for workplace and facilities management professionals, recognising their pivotal role in advancing sustainability within organisations and contributing to a better, healthier, more sustainable future. The challenge was to accelerate action on sustainability. In parallel, we’ve embarked on a journey to enhance the sustainability of the Awards by introducing a new sustainability strategy this year.
We have partnered with event:decision to assess the environmental impact of hosting the Awards and have produced a pre-event carbon footprint report that has highlighted some of the areas where we can reduce our carbon emissions this year.
Some of the areas we are focusing on include:
- Menu: A vegetarian menu will be served this year to help reduce the Awards carbon footprint. Information provided in our pre-event carbon impact report based showed that making this change will reduce the overall carbon footprint of the event by an impressive 16%.
- Event materials: Any printed items will now be on recycled stock where possible that is fully recyclable, plus the programme will now be digital to view online.
- Travel: We encourage all guests to travel via public transport if possible or to travel in groups in taxis or private cars. We will be asking all guests to tell us about their travel to the venue for the Awards night to work out the emissions to be able to offset these.
We are at the beginning of our sustainability journey for the Awards and hope to build up the strategy and make incremental changes over the years as we gain more knowledge from assessing the impact of the event. We plan to report back post event on activity and impact.
